Early Life
Born on November 6, 1861, in Almonte, Ontario, Canada, Naismith was the second child of Scottish immigrants.
He married Maude Evelyn Sherman in 1894 in Springfield, Massachusetts, and the couple had five children. He became an American citizen in 1925.
